Store toxic ones outside the building envelope
With a home that is super-insulated, there are always
concerns about air quality. A home that is well sealed
against air infiltration may have moisture buildup, as well
as the build up of pollutants from cooking, cleaning and
offgassing from building materials, finishes and personal
possessions in a home. In winter, closed windows and
central heating may cause very dry air. And the very act of
living in a home means we exhale carbon dioxide that needs
to be replaced with fresh air.
In the past, most of these problems were solved by very
loose construction that allowed lots of air to infiltrate a
home, through the walls, windows, doors, floors, etc.
